Supporting the Development of Young Children (0-5 years) who have Down Syndrome

This course is for parents / carers of children up to the age of approximately 5 years old. It will include the opportunity to look at resources and to see clips of young children who have Down syndrome engaged in formal activities to support their development. You avre able to view the flyer HERE.

It will be delivered by Helen Long; a parent, SENCO, and advisory teacher for children who have Down syndrome and will include the following areas;

 Course content

· What is Down syndrome and what does it mean that your child has it? (including a typical learning profile of a child who has Down syndrome)

· Play activities

· Behaviour basics

· Self Help Skills

· Gross and fine motor skills

· Why sign?

· Reading and how to teach it

· Early maths activities

· Choosing an educational setting and preparing for it

 When: Sunday 14th October 2018, 9.30am to 3.30pm (registration from 9:00)

 Where:  The Ellen Terry Suite, Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre, Lytton Way, Stevenage, Hertfordshire, SG1 1LZ

Cost: Parent/carer £20.  Please bring your own packed lunch, tea and coffee will be provided.
