For Young people (aged 16 - 24 years)

DS Achieve is delighted to be one of three organisations partnering with Hertfordshire Libraries to deliver their brand new Youth Volunteer programme 'My Voice'.

'My Voice' is a two-year project, generously funded by Arts Council England, which provides opportunities for young people aged 14-24 years old to join the Hertfordshire Libraries youth volunteer network in libraries across the county. The three partner organisations are The OLLIE Foundation, Herts Sports Partnership and DS Achieve.

The DS Achieve partnership with Hertfordshire Libraries means that we have delivered (and continue to deliver) specialist training via our Down Syndrome advisors to a large number of the library staff in Hertfordshire to enable them to fully support young people with Down Syndrome to volunteer. The volunteers will gain valuable learning and development opportunities, including life skills and work experience.

The majority of Hertfordshire libraries are now ready and keen to support young people with volunteering opportunities with them.

We currently have five successful placements underway and would love to place some more young people into Hertfordshire libraries so please do get in touch using the link below if you’d like more information.

Our weekly Young Achievers programme aims to provide children and young people (up to the age of 17 years) who have Down Syndrome with friendship, fun and positivity. The group gives young people the opportunity to participate in games and activities designed to help them develop teamwork, social skills and other practical skills for life. The group also offers the chance to be active and have improved wellbeing.

Children and young people with Down Syndrome often find it difficult to access social opportunities that are not tailored to meet their individual needs. The Young Achievers programme provides them with a safe environment to develop the skills they need to thrive in their communities.

Bringing children and young people with Down Syndrome together on a regular basis also helps them to develop positivity and confidence in who they are by providing them with the opportunity to build strong peer to peer friendships.
