Number Sense for Children with Down Syndrome

  • Lemsford Hall Bricket Road Welwyn Garden City AL8 7TT (map)

DS Achieve is pleased to offer a training event on Number Sense for both professionals and parents/carers.

Research shows that learners with Down syndrome struggle with numeracy.  Numeracy levels can be on average 2 years behind a child’s literacy levels.  This course will define what number sense is and consider practical activities and resources available to build strong foundational number skills.  This course is not age related but may be of interest to parents, early years practitioners and primary practitioners.

Parents/carers will find the content useful in supporting their child at home and when working alongside school staff.  The training will be delivered by Anne Gullick, Specialist Teacher for children with Down Syndrome.

For those working with children at pre-school/infant numeracy level, you will need to attend day 1 ONLY. (Please remember this course is concerned with the child’s developmental level and is not age-related.)

For those working with junior numeracy level, you will need to attend BOTH day 1 AND day 2.  (Please remember this course is concerned with the child’s developmental level and is not age-related.
