We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Early Years Teacher to deliver specialist early intervention teaching sessions as part of our fantastic Little Achievers programme for children with Down Syndrome aged 0-5 and their families.
Little Achievers provides a welcoming and supportive space where young children can learn, play and develop, while parents have the opportunity to connect with other families. The programme includes a weekly specialist teaching class for children aged 1-5, Stay and Play activities, Sing and Sign using Makaton, and opportunities to meet visiting professionals, including a Speech and Language Therapist, Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.
As our Little Achievers Specialist Teacher, you’ll plan and deliver engaging, small-group teaching sessions to support each child’s individual development. You’ll focus particularly on speech, language and communication, social communication, early literacy and numeracy, using your specialist knowledge of how pre-school children with Down Syndrome learn and develop.
You’ll set individual targets for each child, review their progress each term and work closely with parents to discuss their child’s development and ways to support their learning at home. You’ll also work collaboratively with the Little Achievers Manager and wider team to ensure that the teaching sessions complement the wider programme and provide a consistent, supportive experience for children and families.
We’re looking for someone with a relevant professional education or therapeutic qualification, specialist knowledge and experience of working with pre-school children with Down Syndrome, and a strong understanding of their speech, language, communication and learning profiles. Good knowledge and practical use of Makaton is essential, alongside experience of planning and delivering small-group teaching or intervention sessions. You’ll be passionate about early intervention, creative in your approach, and committed to helping children reach their potential.
